66th RQS returns from Hurricane Irma relief efforts

In midafternoon Sept. 8, the 66th Rescue Squadron and 823rd Maintenance Squadron assigned to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada received a call from the U.S. Northern Command to ready teams to support FEMA search and rescue efforts in the Florida Keys following the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, which later made landfall Sept. 10.

Nellis personnel had a C-5M Super Galaxy cargo aircraft assigned to the 60th Air Mobility Wing, Travis AFB, California loaded with three HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters, two personnel recovery task forces, 54 support personnel and nearly 60 short tons of supplies in the sky by the early morning hours of Sept. 11.

The 66th RQS returned to Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, Sept. 15.
