Holloman Air Force Base’s 49th Wing Legal Office was named Air Combat Command’s Legal Office of the Year for 2017.

This award comes as a result of Holloman’s Judge Advocate officials’ outstanding work ethic and performance throughout this past year.

From start to finish the team filed 24 court-martials, more than any other Air Force legal office. The team also closed out 1,190 civil law suspenses and reached over 1,500 Airmen via a mobile legal outreach capability that offers legal briefings and services.

"I am not excited that we have had 24 court-martials in a year," said Col. Houston Cantwell, 49th Wing commander. "With that said, we here at Holloman are no question enforcing the standards. The level of legal advice provided to this command team is second to none.”

Bringing home the gold does not come easy.

“The hardest aspect to winning this award was an increased workload for both sections of our office, civil law and military justice,” said Master Sgt. Ryan Scott, 49th Wing Legal Office superintendent. “Through it all, our team banded together and it was outstanding to be a part of it.”

On account of their win, the team will be able to compete at the Air Force level for Legal Office of the Year. Were it not for their collaboration and steadfast determination, Holloman’s Legal Office may not have succeeded.

“The best benefit to winning this award is our team's recognition by Major Commands of the United States Air Force leadership and peer bases for working extremely hard over the past year,” Scott said. “Our team's positive attitudes, energy and effort is contagious! It truly is a blessing and I could not be more proud.”
