One of the sure signs of the spring thaw in Utah is motorcycle riders back out on the roads.

The 388th Fighter Wing Safety Office is offering motorcycle safety courses to ensure that Airmen are trained properly and riding within Air Force regulations.

On March 19, the wing hosted its first training day, for both riders and rider coaches, and hopes to offer at least five more sessions over the coming months, said Tech Sgt. Lance Beard, NCOIC of 388th FW Ground Safety, who initiated the courses.

In addition to state and local licensing requirements, Air Force motorcycle riders are required to take an initial basic riders course, an advanced riders course one year later, and refresher courses every five years.

The 388th Fighter Wing program is for 388th Fighter Wing Airmen only. It is conducted in conjunction with the 75th Air Base Wing and meant to supplement the Hill Air Force Base Motorcycle Safety program offered by the 75th Safety Office.

Airmen interested in the course should contact their Unit Motorcycle Safety Representative or the Wing Safety Office (777-3402) and watch for safety office emails on upcoming courses.
