Team Shaw children and their families participated in events including a magic show, Easter egg hunts and a petting zoo.

“The event is intended to give back to military children,” said Deborah MacQueen, 20th Force Support Squadron youth program director. “We want our children to be recognized for the sacrifices and adjustments they make every single day and help them understand they have a support system in the Shaw community.”

MacQueen added that it is important for the military community to come together, reach out to the children and remind them how much the base cares about them.

“A military child is unique and encounters family separations for long periods, frequent moves and deployments that can be very confusing and scary,” said Macqueen.

The MOMC was first celebrated in 1986 to show support and thank the more than 1.8 million military children currently serving across the globe.

“Our family arrived to Shaw almost one month ago,” said Jessica Mann, military spouse. “We knew that our daughter would love to enjoy the event. Coming from overseas, it’s important for her to be around other military children and interact with them.”

Through numerous events designed for kids, the celebration provided Team Shaw members with an opportunity to thank the children for the countless sacrifices they make throughout their parents’ selfless service.
