The 20th Civil Engineering Squadron at Shaw Air Force Base has been awarded the Environmental Restoration, Installation award for its forward leaning approach to environmental restoration.

The Department of Defense Environmental Restoration, Installation award recognizes a base’s efforts to protect human health and the environment by cleaning up hazardous substances, pollutants or contaminants and munitions in a timely, cost-efficient, and responsive manner.

“This award is important as it recognizes the hard work and dedication from all involved stakeholders," said Mr. Juvenal Salomon, CES restoration program manager. “It is always a team effort, with constant focused collaboration involving multiple functional and protect support teams, including our base leadership, our community and our State partners.”

The heart of Shaw AFB Environmental Restoration Program’s success lies with the proactive and involved stakeholders, bonded by close partnerships and constant collaboration.

“The Sumter community has been home to Shaw AFB for 80 years this August,” said Maj. Graham Auten, 20th CES commander. “It is our job to be good stewards of the community we live in, the Environmental Restoration Program is one way we do this.”

Shaw was one of the first bases to endure two years of installation Strategic Acquisition Planning, resulting in the award of ten contracts dedicated to environmental restoration.

These contracts have allowed the Environmental Restoration Program to escalate efforts to clean up and maintain an environmentally safe installation for the Airmen and families at Shaw and the community of Sumter S.C.
