In a small building tucked behind the hospital at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, the staff of the 379th Expeditionary Medical Group Enroute Patient Staging Facility care for patients from across the region transiting to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, or back to other home station locations to receive a higher level of care than what is routinely available in theater. The EPSF cares for patients for anywhere from a few hours to several days at their 21-bed enroute patient staging facility and move them forward to other locations through their aeromedical evacuation program.

But not all of their patients have two legs; some have paws, and they are manifested on medical evacuation missions like the human military members they protect. On the night of July 18, 2016, 14 patients, including a military working dog, were flown from here to get the care they need.
