Airmen assigned to the 20th Fighter Wing jumped into a morning of sports and wingmanship during a Comprehensive Airman Fitness and sports day at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, Aug. 10.

The CAF sports day gave Airmen the opportunity to recover from the unit effectiveness inspection that began Aug. 1 and concluded Aug. 5.

A wide variety of sports and games were played, to include slip-and-slide kickball, knockerball and an “Amazing Race.”

Each event helped increase Team Shaw member’s physical resiliency as well as help them bounce back from any stress that may have accumulated throughout the year.

“The event gives the base an opportunity to reset and refresh,” said Chief Master Sgt. Christopher McKinney, 20th FW command chief. “The wing has been working really hard through the UEIs, surges, and the air show.”

During the UEI and the surge Airmen worked together to accomplish the mission at hand, but the CAF and sports day gave Airmen the opportunity to compete against each other in friendly competition.

“It’s a nice day for unity and comradery, giving us the opportunity to blow off some steam and step away for a second to catch our breath,” said Tech. Sgt. Russel Statham, 20th Security Forces Squadron installation security noncommissioned officer in charge.

Whether sliding into home during a game of softball or bumping an opponent down to the ground in knockerball, Airmen had the opportunity to put the past behind them and continue the mission with excellence.
