USAFA Summer Research Program

From left, U.S. Air Force Academy Cadets Madi Hirsch, Eamon McHugh and Olivia Orahood inspect three reed beds located at the Silver Flag Test Site at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida. The reed beds hold clay pellets surrounded by duck potato and cat tail plants that absorb what is filtered in from the adjacent oil and separator tub. Their experiment was part of an annual summer research program that took place May 24 – July 2. The program offers cadets the opportunity to work with experienced Air Force scientists at the Air Force Civil Engineer Center Readiness Laboratory to solve real Air Force challenges.
