  • DOD celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month

    The Defense Department and the nation celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. It's a time to reflect on the contributions and sacrifices Hispanics have made to the United States, not just in the military, but in all walks of life. A significant number of Hispanics have served in all of the nation's wars beginning with the Revolutionary War. Sixty-one service members of Hispanic or Latino heritage have been awarded the Medal of Honor, the highest medal for valor. Two were sailors, 13 Marines and 46 soldiers.
  • 332nd AEW hosts keynote speaker honoring AAPI Heritage Month

    The 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing commissioned a virtual keynote speech from an advocate for Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage, May 12, 2021. Dr. Ravi Chaudhary is a notable voice for the contributions of AAPI servicemembers to the military and the nation at large. He is Indian American, born to first generation immigrants who made their way to Minneapolis, Minn., and who chose to pursue an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy.
  • Sister of Lance P. Sijan encourages deployed Airmen to lead fearlessly with love

    Airmen of the 332nd AEW gathered for a remote meeting with the sister of a fallen service member who posthumously received the Medal of Honor for his courage and bravery during captivity in the Vietnam Conflict. Brig. Gen. Joseph Kunkel, the 332nd AEW Commander, opened by introducing Ms. Janine Sijan-Rozina, the sister of Capt. Lance Sijan, a U.S. Air Force Academy graduate and Vietnam Prisoner of War.

    A once quiet landscape turned battlefield, the clash of gunfire and shouts ripped through the Shahi-Kot Valley in the early hours of March 4, 2002. As part of an early war effort that targeted al Qaeda and Taliban forces in Afghanistan, the Battle of Roberts Ridge is still known as one of the deadliest engagements during Operation Anaconda. Above the Takur Ghar mountain top, an MQ-1 Predator aircrew became an unforeseen, close air support asset for a desperate joint special operations team in their time of need.

    President Donald Trump will posthumously award the Medal of Honor to the family of a fallen U.S. Air Force Special Tactics Combat Controller at a ceremony Aug. 22 for his extraordinary heroism in March 2002 while deployed to Afghanistan.
  • Airman posthumously receives Medal of Honor

    The White House announced July 27, 2018, that Air Force Tech. Sgt. John Chapman will be posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor Aug. 22, for his extraordinary heroism during the Battle of Takur Ghar, Afghanistan, in March 2002.
