Chaplain, Colonel Howard D. Stendahl is the Command Chaplain, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Va. As the command chaplain, he advises and represents the ACC commander on all aspects of the Chaplain Corps mission. He ensures ACCs chaplains and chaplain assistants are ready and prepared for global deployment. He is responsible for providing functional leadership to all ACC bases and other chaplain units, to include developing chaplain policies, plans, programs, readiness and contingency requirements, and religious support for more than 200 active-duty Chaplain Corps members serving 105,000 active-duty and civilian personnel at 27 wings, 17 bases, and more than 200 operating locations worldwide. He is responsible for all Chaplain Corps programs within the command providing Airmen and their families with spiritual care and opportunities for the free exercise of religion. He ensures chaplains and chaplain assistants are prepared for global deployment. The Command Chaplain's staff responsibilities include personnel, manpower, assignments, readiness, Air Force chapels, and financial resources.
Chaplain Stendahl was born and raised in St. Paul Minn. Ordained into the ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 1977.  He studied Clinical Pastoral Education and served as a parish pastor in Texas and Wisconsin before entering the Air Force Chaplain Service in 1985.
