12/19/2007 - LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. (ACCNS) -- The Air Combat Command commander presented the Gen. Carl A. Spaatz Award to a Hampton Roads Civil Air Patrol cadet here Monday.
Cadet Col. Daniel B. Lamb is the first cadet from the Hampton Roads Composite Squadron to receive the Spaatz award.
"The Spaatz Award is about demonstrated excellence in leadership, character, fitness and aerospace education," said Gen. John D.W. Corley, ACC commander. "Those are some of the foundations of what the Air Force is all about," he said.
Spaatz Awards are awarded to less than one percent of the cadets in the Civil Air Patrol and generally take cadets five years to achieve. Cadet Lamb received his Spaatz Award in less than four years of service.
"I am looking to go ROTC through college and then hopefully join the Air Force for a career," said Cadet Lamb. "I don't know where it will take me, but I'll cross into the blue and see what happens."
