Air Combat Command Moments

Staff Weather Officers (SWO) from the 3d Weather Squadron (WS) were put to the test during a Certification Field Exercise (CFX), July 28-Aug. 2, at Camp Bowie Training Center, Texas. The CFX was designed to evaluate the squadron’s overall tactical ability and readiness to provide the U.S. Army with full spectrum environmental support to the Joint Task Force (JTF) fight. The 3d Weather Squadron, 557th Weather Wing, is post-level weather unit in the Air Force. The support provided by the squadron can have a significant impact on the Army customers it supports. Army divisions, like the 1st Cavalry Division, rely on weather support from U.S. Air Force Combat Weather Airmen 3d WS.
“Today’s Air Force is the best in the world and the reason is obvious -- our people. Pure and simple. It’s no secret, a life of service can be hard and demanding – yet, our Airmen demonstrate an unrivaled dedication and inspiring willingness to serve. That’s why it’s important to recognize – publicly and often – the incredible work that is done every day, everywhere across the Air Force.
To develop these skills necessary to stay alive after bailing out over the ocean, aircrew from the 389th and 391st Fighter Squadrons attended water survival training taught by 366th Fighter Wing survival, evasion, resistance and escape (SERE) specialist.
Airmen from across the Air Force participated in the Feria Aeronáutica Internacional - Colombia (F-AIR) air show in Rionegro, Colombia, June 11-14. The air show garnered over 250,000 visitors and featured aerial demonstrations from the Colombian Air Force and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, along with static displays of four F-16 Fighting Falcons from the South Carolina Air National Guard. Additionally, two B-52 Stratofortress aircraft from the 307th Bomb Wing, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, performed a flyer over the fairgrounds alongside Kfir fighter aircraft from the Colombian Air Force. United States military participation in the air show provides an opportunity to strengthen ties between the U.S. and Colombia while also helping to build military-to-military relationships with the Colombian Air Force.
Enlisting in the Air Force in February of 2004 with the goal of eventually becoming a pilot, Capt. Robert Poe had to excel in multiple career fields spanning more than 10 years, before being selected for pilot training. Now, Poe is the 74th Fighter Squadron (FS) chief of safety, an A-10C Thunderbolt II pilot with more than 4,500 total flying hours and is one of the few Airmen to have earned three different aviation badges.
A C-130 Hercules required an engine replacement at Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait, July 30, 2019. C-130’s are critical assets in projecting combat power in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.
Two Air Force Academy graduates were officially selected to join the United States Air Force Thunderbirds for the 2020 demonstration season.
Staff Sgt. Travis Fiero and Fredi sure know how to fill their days! See what a day is like for this 20th Security Forces Squadron military working dog team. (No bite suit required!)
The 388th Fighter Wing set a speed record for bringing online a newly-delivered aircraft last week, flying a local sortie less than five hours after accepting delivery of its 68th F-35A Lightning II. F-35A program’s production and delivery plan was designed to allow rapid aircraft induction and quick use. In theory, it means that F-35As could be deployed directly from the factory into combat if a large-scale conflict ever drives that need.
A resiliency message to Airmen from Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, Kaleth O. Wright.
