Airmen, family members honor veterans
BLUFFDALE, Utah --
In preparation for Veterans Day, Team Hill Airmen and family members gathered at a cemetery here Nov. 10 for a volunteer project, which honored all veterans.
The project was organized by the Air Force Sergeants Association, Chapter 1163, and preparations began just after sunrise. With the sun still low in the sky, the volunteers spread across the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery grounds and neatly placed a U.S. flag next to every resting place.
Staff Sgt. Colby Bridge, 649th Munitions Squadron, helped organize the project.
"It's important to remember the people who came before you," said Bridge. "That they served too, whether it was for a short period of time or a full 20 years."
Bernie Reorda, grounds maintainer for the cemetery, commented on the help provided by the volunteers.
"We appreciate the military folks coming out and giving us a hand," said Reorda. "It helps us out and they get the job done quickly."
An hour after beginning the project, the volunteers finished after placing nearly 6,000 flags in honor of the men and women who have preserved our nation's freedoms.
