Mountain Roundup kicks off Oct. 15

MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho --  Starting Oct. 15, Gunfighters and local communities may notice increased flying operations and a few visitors at Mountain Home, which will play host to exercise Mountain Roundup.

Visitors will include members of the German air force, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps.

For the German air force's PA-200 Tornado aircrews, the exercise serves as the final stage of training for the Fighter Weapons Instructor Course with the German Air Force Flying Training Center at Holloman Air Force, N.M. 

For others, it's a chance to participate in a large-force exercise in preparation for future joint operations.

"It's a large-force exercise that gives us a chance to fight in a complex and demanding scenario with emphasis on force integration," said Capt. George Grkovic, 366th Fighter Wing Plans, Programs and Assessments Office chief of receptions.

The exercise is scheduled to run until Oct. 30.

Exercise participants will include:
F-15E Strike Eagles from the 389th Fighter Squadron and 391st FS; Mountain Home AFB
F-15C Eagles from the 390th FS; Mountain Home AFB
AT-38C Talons from the 88th Fighter Training Squadron; Sheppard AFB, Texas
HC-130 Hercules from the 71st Rescue Squadron; Moody AFB, Ga.
Navy EA-6B Prowlers from the Electronic Attack Squadron 142; Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, Wash.
Marines AV-88 Harrier IIs from the Marine Attack Squadron 542; Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C.
Marines F/A-18C Hornets from the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 323; MCAS Cherry Point, N.C.
German air force PA-200 Tornados from the GAF FTC; Holloman AFB, N.M.
