Gunfighters receive medals for service

MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Left, Col. Thomas Laffey, 366th Mission Support Group commander, presents an Air Force Combat Action Medal to Staff Sgt. Jonathan Salisbury, 366th Civil Engineer Squadron, for actions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom during an awards ceremony at the Gunfighter Club Jan. 25. On May 25, 2006, Sergeant Salisbury’s forward operating base came under direct fire. Upon hearing the incoming fire, the sergeant assumed a defensive position and returned fire. When the fire halted, Sergeant Salisbury remained in an over-watch position while the quick reaction force assessed the situation. Approved on March 15, 2007, the medal recognizes Airmen who actively participated in combat. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Stephany Miller)
