Air Force changes network operations structure Published July 5, 2006 Air Combat Command Public Affairs LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. (ACCNS) -- The Air Force reorganized its network operations structure on Wednesday, July 5, to better support the warfighter. The move puts all Air Force units charged with network operations under the command of a single commander, Lt. Gen. Robert Elder, 8th Air Force and Air Force Network Operations commander at Barksdale AFB, La. Previously network operations responsibilities were scattered among 10 Major Command Network Operations and Security Centers (NOSC), as well as 8th Air Force, the Air Intelligence Agency, the Operational Standard Systems Group and the Air Force Communications Agency. Major commands enforced their own network and computer standards. These capabilities will now be consolidated under the 67th Network Warfare Wing, previously the 67th Information Operations Wing. The wing will oversee the stand-up of two Integrated Network Operations and Security Centers (I-NOSC) located here and at Peterson AFB, Colo., consolidating the former duties of the major command NOSCs. Both I-NOSCs will be in charge of four detachments. The Langley AFB I-NOSC will oversee Air Force Reserve Command, Air Force Special Operations Command, Air Force Materiel Command and United States Air Forces in Europe. The Peterson AFB I-NOSC will oversee Pacific Air Forces, Air Education and Training Command, Air Mobility Command and the Air National Guard. The AFNETOPS realignment also moves Air Combat Command's Signals Intelligence mission from the 67th Net Warfare Wing to the 70th Intelligence Wing, and moves the 70th IW under Air Intelligence Agency. Details of the reorganization's full implementation are still being worked.
