  • SEAD proves vital piece to Red Flag puzzle

    It takes numerous pieces of all shapes and sizes to complete the puzzle of an Air Tasking Order during Red Flag at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. One such piece to the puzzle would be suppression of enemy air defenses which has been around since the days of the Wild Weasels. “The suppression of enemy air defenses means eliminating, avoiding, and destroying threats that are trying to shoot down any of our friendly forces,” said Maj. William Lutmer, 55th Fighter Squadron director of operations, Shaw AFB, South Carolina. “SEAD has a full spectrum of suppression techniques such as jamming, putting a bomb on the target, or it might even mean using a High-Speed Anti-Radiation Missile to hit it.”
  • Singaporean leaders visit, recognize first weapons instructors

    The 366th Fighter Wing welcomed Singaporean Maj. Gen. Mervyn Tan, Chief of Republic of Singapore Air Force, and Brig. Gen. Tommy Tan Ah Han, RSAF Air Combat Command commander, to recognize the first graduates of the Singaporean Fighter Weapons Instructor Course here, Aug. 17-20. The RSAF leaders met with 366th Fighter Wing leaders, went on a base tour and attended a mission brief to experience the working relationship between the Singaporean 428th Fighter Squadron and the rest of the Gunfighters.

  • Colombians kick off Green Flag East in Louisiana

    Forty-five Colombian Airmen and four Colombian Air Force A-29B Super Tucanos are operating from Barksdale Air Force Base, La., as part of Exercise Green Flag East Aug. 15-29. The Colombian contingent arrived Aug. 13 and immediately started engaging with their U.S. Air Force counterparts in order to prepare for the two-week exercise.

  • Air Force releases criteria for basing new F-16 training squadrons

    The Air Force released basing criteria today that will be used to select candidate bases to establish additional permanent Formal Training Units (FTU) using F-16s from Hill Air Force Base (AFB). The Air Force needs to increase fighter pilot production as part of the service’s efforts to address its fighter pilot shortage. However, establishing permanent FTUs takes time and the need for additional fighter pilot production is urgent.

Blue Flag is a key exercise in helping to prepare leaders and achieve the overall USAFWC mission. Blue Flag is an Air Combat Command exercise that provides air, space and cyberspace training for coalition air components and other services in the live, virtual and constructive environments.
