    AF boosts environment with plant relocation

    Volunteers helped the 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron relocate pollinator plants from the Bethel Park Pollinator Garden to the nature trail on Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. Once an old dumping ground, the pollinator garden was installed at Bethel Park in 2014 in accordance with the National Public Lands Day project to help clean up the area. The garden plants provided food or habitat for pollinator organisms such as hummingbirds, bees, butterflies, and occasionally small mammals. A grant from the National Environmental Education Foundation and the Department of Defense Legacy Resource Management Program awarded funds to 633rd CES personnel to plant a garden, however, due to the location of the garden, it has been underutilized by the public and overgrown with weeds.

    Upgrade advances A-10s search capability

    A-10C Thunderbolt IIs assigned to active duty fighter squadrons here are in the process of having new lightweight airborne recovery systems installed. The LARS V-12 is designed to allow A-10 pilots to communicate more effectively with individuals on the ground such as downed pilots, pararescuemen and joint terminal attack controllers.

    Airmen collaborate across states, keep aircraft aloft

    Team work between two units located at two separate bases keep the 4th Fighter Wing's F-15E Strike Eagles ready for whatever missions come the wing's way. Seymour Johnson AFB and Robins AFB, Georgia, demonstrate the meaning of team work through the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex's programmed depot maintenance on the F-15 Strike Eagle.

    T-38 maintenance significant to ISR

    Although various personnel provide support to T-38 flying operations a group of mechanics play an integral role. These civilian contractors work to keep the aircraft ready to fly whenever necessary.

    JBLE training course advances skills for maintainers

    Throughout the year, more than 370 maintainers from eight different Air Force Specialty Codes attend advanced training courses at the 372nd Training Squadron, Detachment 18 at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.

    Training detachment expands maintainers' knowledge AF-wide

    From the outside, it’s a barren building with no windows and few travelers through the doors, but down its concrete halls, Airmen from all over the world are expanding their knowledge on aircraft maintenance.

  • Moody finalizes DoD initiative

    Moody Air Force Base celebrated during a historical ceremony for the transfer of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant from a private contractor to Lowndes County, Oct. 3, in Valdosta, Ga. It’s taken three and a half years for this project to come to fruition, but Moody is leading from the front by becoming the first base in the DOD to gain approval for an inter-governmental service agreement with a municipality for a utility. The Department of Defense selected Moody as one of 13 prototype Air Force installations to take part in the public-public, public-private, or P4 initiative. The P4 initiative is used as a tool for maximizing operational effectiveness and minimizing costs.

    Teaming-up to take down an invader

    Idaho is home to thousands of acres of grassland teaming with sage brush, slickspot peppergrass and wheatgrass, but one species is claiming this unique landscape as its own.

The QF-16 is a Full Scale Aerial Target that has been modified to be flown with a pilot in the cockpit for training and also without a pilot as a target for live missile testing.
