    Airmen of the 609th AOC Det. 1 support real-world command and control operations everyday with AFCENT’s forward headquarters at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. Whether it’s ensuring the Combined Air Operations Center maintains resiliency in the face of any attack or situation, or planning hundreds of daily air mobility missions, this partnership between the Airmen in Qatar and the U.S. is essential to a new model of C2 operations. As a violent force approached, the Airmen dug in to repel the force. It was just like an attack, but this one came from nature.

    USDA net system designed to reduce aviation bird strikes in AOR

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture works with safety teams around the Air Force to limit the presence of birds on and around airfields to protect aircraft from bird strikes, an issue that costs the Air Force millions of dollars every year in damages. Here, at the busiest aerial port in the U.S. Air Forces Central Command, the USDA team has taken a system for catching birds used at a few stateside installations in the Air Force and created one fitted for use in the desert. This demonstrates the potential that our Airmen from all components of the Total Force—civilian, Guard or Reserve, or active duty—have to make a difference through their ingenuity and creativity.

    175th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron Brings U.S. Airpower to Bagram

    U.S. Airmen and F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 175th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron (EFS) deployed to Bagram Airfield in support of combat operations, July 27. The 175th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron replaced the 125th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, out of Tulsa Air National Guard Base, Oklahoma, who delivered decisive airpower for the past three months.

    From nothing to something – Cargo City takes shape

    Construction is nearly complete on ‘Cargo City,’ a new operating location for U.S. and coalition forces to conduct aerial port operations in Kuwait. This aerial port will continue to serve as a major-military logistics point, and also functions as the largest aerial port of debarkation in the Middle East.

    Life-saving act molds Airman’s future

    Three years ago, Tech. Sgt. Julian Tayag was closing the pharmacy for the duty day with his wingman when tragedy nearly struck. Three years later, this event would culminate in his acceptance into the Interservice Physician Assistant Program.

    AFCENT A1 gives time back to pre-deploying Airmen

    The U.S. Air Forces Central Command’s Manpower, Personnel and Services Directorate (A1) began the second phase of decreasing pre-deployment requirements for Airmen preparing to enter AFCENT’s area of responsibility. AFCENT Deployment Streamlining version 2.0 was released and became effective June 15, 2018.

    379th Maintenance Squadron maintains process improvement

    The 379th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron supplies hundreds of tires a month to various aircraft. As a 24-hour operation supporting nine airframes for about 13 military installations, it is imperative that maintainers have every resource to do their jobs.

    Afghan Air Force Conducts First Emergency Combat Airdrop

    Afghan Air Force (AAF) C-208 air crew members conducted their first emergency combat airdrop mission bringing ammunition to Afghan National Police (ANP) and citizens fighting the Taliban in Badakshan province, June 1. Afghan aircrew members conducted mission planning, prepared nearly 1,000 pounds of ammunition for delivery and successfully dropped the supplies all within six hours of being notified of the need for support.

    Vehicle Management welds fuel tanks back to life

    The 386th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle management flight has been hard at work keeping the refueling vehicle fleet mission ready over the past few months at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia. Recently, the team began to experience cracks in several of the more than 10 year old trucks resulting in leaks if the trucks had stayed in service. To combat this issue, the vehicle management team sprang into action synergizing the expertise from other units on base and even a contractor from another base to plug the leak.

    Laser Guided Bombs enhance Afghan Air Force Strike Capability

    Since March 22, the Afghan Air Force (AAF) has both introduced and increased the use of precision guided munitions in southern Afghanistan. The implementation of Laser Guided Bombs, nearly 96% of strikes have been successful and have led to a 30% increase in ground force commander desired effects on the battlefield and a greater overall mission success.
