    FLOTUS visits JBLE

    First Lady Melania Trump visited with a U.S. Air Force Airman at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, Dec. 12, 2018. Trump recognized and thanked family members for their support of U.S. service members. While at the base the 1st Fighter Wing commander, U.S. Air Force Col. Jason Hinds, gave the first lady a tour of the F-22 Raptor Hinds briefed Trump on the F-22’s capabilities through its combination of stealth, supercruise, maneuverability, and integrated avionics. After Trump’s visit to JBLE, she flew to the USS George H.W. Bush to meet U.S. Navy Sailors.

    One step at a time

    Senior Master Sgt. David Snyder put on his physical training uniform and fought the tension inside his chest. It was the day of his annual PT test. Like all his tests before, he had been preparing for months. But this time, he was a lot more nervous. He drove himself to the site. He did as many push-ups and sit-ups as he could in 60 seconds, he ran a mile and a half, and he got his waist measured. In the end, he easily passed the test with a score of 84.4 – with a prosthetic where one of his legs used to be. Five months prior, Snyder lost his left leg in a brutal motorcycle accident.

  • Policy changes for Post-9/11 GI Bill transfers

    Additional changes to the Post-9/11 GI Bill Transfer of Benefits policy were announced Nov. 14, 2018. The Department of Defense postponed their previous effective date of July 12, 2018, to July 12, 2019. Since the policy change was effective immediately, service members who were previously eligible found themselves ineligible to transfer their benefits. To ensure issues were addressed fairly, the effective date was pushed back a year.

    The Air Force looks to its Airmen to be innovative in order to save time and money. Staff Sgt. Justin Tankersley, 20th Maintenance Group weapons lead crew chief, created a new tool for F-16 Fighting Falcons.

    JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. -- Instructors from the Air Force Safety Center recently visited Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., to teach a human factor workshop Oct. 10 -11.

    JBLE supports Tyndall AFB recovery efforts

    The 733rd Logistics Readiness Squadron small air terminal supported Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida recovery efforts out of Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, Oct. 17, 2018. The 733rd LRS Airmen are loading an HC130J Combat King II from the 71st Rescue Squadron from Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, as part of an ongoing effort in support of recovery operations.

    Intel and recruiting Airmen embark Fleet Week

    Airmen from the 70th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing, 317th Recruiting Squadron and Air Force Recruiting Services attended Fleet Week Baltimore to meet and talk with the local community October 6, 2018 in Baltimore, Md. These Airmen were given a chance to speak with the local community about their experiences and careers as Airmen throughout the week. Fleet Week Baltimore also gave Maryland residents an opportunity to meet and learn about U.S. maritime capabilities of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, along with promoting community growth and interaction with all services.

    Alzheimer’s walk

    Team Shaw had its first Alzheimer’s walk to raise money, bring awareness and find a cure for the disease. Each participant found sponsors to donate a certain amount of money per lap they completed around Memorial Lake. Typically, diseases are unforeseen and affect not only the host but their loved ones as well. Alzheimer’s is no different. It is a disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions. Treatment can help, but it has yet to be cured.
