Air Force Intranet Control

Current as of December 18, 2025

MISSION
The Air Force Intranet Control (AFINC) Weapon System is the top-level boundary, entry, and exit point for the Air Force Information Network. The AFINC Weapon System enables Enterprise WAN Management, Secure and Defend actions for the AFNET & AFNET-S, and control of all external and inter-base traffic through standard, centrally managed Air Force Gateways, Joint Regional Security Stacks (JRSS), Next Generation (NexGen) Gateway Consolidated Enterprise Data Center Stacks, and Base Boundaries. AFINC consists of three PACAF NIPRNet and 15 SIPRNet C2 Gateways, 300+ Service Delivery Points, two Integrated Management Suites, and 600+ Base Boundary devices. The AFINC Weapon System is managed by the Network Management Center of Excellence, specifically the 26th Network Operations Squadron and the Reserve 689th Network Operations Squadron, both located at Maxwell AFB - Gunter Annex in Montgomery, Alabama.

BACKGROUND
The AFINC Weapon System and JRSS replaced and consolidated over 100 regionally managed disparate Air Force network entry points into centrally managed NIPRNet and SIPRNet entry and egress points for all traffic through the Air Force network. AFINC was officially designated by the Chief of Staff of the Air Force in March 2013 and declared Full Operational Capability (FOC) on January 7, 2016. AFINC was the first Cyberspace Weapon System to attain FOC status.

FEATURES
AFINC integrates network operations and defensive cyber operations—internal defense measures—via four sub-discipline areas:

  1. Defense-in-depth
  2. Proactive defense
  3. Network standardization
  4. Situational awareness
