Air Force remains the only federal organization or military branch to win the National Safety Council Rising Star for Safety Award every year since its inception in 2010.

This year’s recipient is Tech. Sgt. Biagi C. R. Borrero, Air Combat Command occupational safety manager, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.

Debra Ferris, NSC director of Safety & Health Solutions, Government Sector, says of Borrero, “Her selfless dedication and devotion to safety has earned her this deserving recognition. The Air Force has men and women who are establishing strong records of safety excellence and leadership among their peers and they will continually affirm this NSC honor throughout their safety careers.”

Ferris adds that Borrero is the first and only instructor outside of the NSC or its affiliates to be certified to teach the NSC Advanced Safety Certificate program.

"I feel extremely blessed and humbled to even be considered for such an award,” Borrero said. “Safety to us is a mind set and it's that attitude and great leadership that has gotten me to this point. I'm excited about my future.”

The complete list of the 2017 Rising Star for Safety award-winners, along with their photos, will be released in the September edition of NSC’s magazine, Safety + Health.
