This week’s Flashback Friday is a reminder of one of the most haunting tragedies in U.S. history.

On Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists hijacked four commercial aircraft. Two hit the World Trade Center and one hit the Pentagon, killing approximately 3,000 people. The last crashed in a Pennsylvania field after passengers and crew members attempted to seize control from the hijackers.

The historical pictures display Shaw members gathering at the 20th Fighter Wing Headquarters building during a 9/11 ceremony, Sept. 11, 2009. Airmen and civilians alike read aloud the names of those who were lost and saluted their memory during a playing of Taps.

How have you commemorated 9/11 in the past?
