SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Many career fields within maintenance focus on a specific piece of equipment or machinery, but for the 20th Component Maintenance Squadron precision measurement equipment laboratory this is not the case.

The laboratory has a multitude of sections that all PMEL Airmen must become proficient on. Once each section is learned, Airmen tend to lean towards one skill or the other.

“I like the job because of its variety and we impact a plethora of shops throughout the base,” said Staff Sgt. Vincenzo Kopilow, 20th CMS, test measurement diagnostic equipment trainer.

Much of the work is taking frequency measurements such as hertz, voltage and wavelengths from specific points in different pieces of equipment.

“Our job is important because everyone needs everything to a certain point of accuracy from the scale at the gym to different systems on an F-16,” said Senior Airman Ethan Jones, 20th CMS TMDE journeyman.

Without the collaborations that PMEL provide many shops on base would not have what is needed in order to complete their missions. Team Shaw continues to work together in efforts to support combat air power.
