MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. --

The 23d Security Forces Squadron (SFS) conducted a field convoy operation during training, Oct. 8, 2019, here.

This readiness training is more focused on helping the 23d SFS Airmen improve their ability to shoot, move and communicate in any environment, ensuring Moody’s Airmen are properly trained for today’s fight while preparing for future conflict.

“While we may not conduct mounted patrols or convoys in tactical vehicles on Moody as a part of our daily mission, it is a task we carry out downrange,” said Maj. Daniel Land, 23d SFS commander. “The training conducted helps our defenders build their knowledge and improve skillsets that can [degrade] when neglected. No matter where we are sent, we must be able to defend and fight the base. Readiness has become a focus in Air Combat Command over the past 2 years to meet emerging threats. Here at Moody that responsibility is being taken on at the squadron level to ensure our Airmen are properly trained and prepared to carry out their mission in a contested environment.”

According to wing leadership, the 23d SFS Airmen met the intent of the initiative by training as a team, adapting to the challenges they faced, making decisions and learning from their mistakes.

“These Airmen were empowered to build a training event that made the most of the resources and time available to build team readiness and cohesion,” said Col. Benjamin Conde, 23d Wing vice commander. “Everyone fights. Whether you are an attack pilot, a rescue loadmaster, a vehicle maintainer, a fitness apprentice or a medic, you all have a role to play in the way this wing prepares for war.”

Because the 23d SFS’ mission is around-the-clock, the Airmen train approximately six days per month to meet requirements such as proficiency firing, handcuffing and searching. However, this readiness training plan is more in-depth and provides defenders the opportunity to show 23d Wing leadership the mission set and how the 23d SFS is working to meet the Wing’s vision: Resilient – Adaptable – Always Ready.

“The 23d Wing has to be ready for today’s fight while simultaneously preparing for a future fight that will require us to establish a base, defend it, receive follow-on forces, establish command and control, and project attack and rescue power,” Conde said. “We need to be ruthlessly efficient with our Airmen’s time. The 23d Security Forces Squadron lived up to this expectation and used their scarce training time to work on the core skills they need to be a cohesive fighting team.”
