Gunfighters raised more than $63,000 from early February to mid-April in support of the base's 2013 Air Force Assistance Fund Campaign.

Monies raised will be donated to one of four charities that provide assistance to the Air Force family -- the Air Force Village, the Air Force Aid Society, the Air Force Enlisted Village and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation.

According to the AFAF website, these charities provide assistance in the form of emergency aid, educational needs and securing homes for widows or widowers of Air Force members.

"The great thing about this campaign is that at least 95 cents of every dollar contributed is actually spent on the AFAF mission - assisting Air Force members and their families," said 2nd Lt. Chelsea Brincka, 366th Contracting Squadron contract manager and AFAF installation project officer. "That's why AFAF affiliates rely largely on volunteers and their contributions."

During this year's campaign, Brincka and her team of project officers offered several incentives including a certificate of recognition and a one-day pass to the group and squadron representatives with the most donations and highest participation.

Airmen from the 366th Maintenance Group, specifically 1st Lt. Jesse Griepy and Senior Master Sgt. Michael Wussow, were recognized for having the highest group participation and donations received. Their squadron, the 366th Maintenance Operations Squadron, also received the highest donation rate.

Tech. Sgt. Jessica McCarthy and Senior Airman Casiana Curry-Williams from the 389th Fighter Squadron garnered the highest participation at the squadron level. Additionally, the 366th MOS and 366th Component Maintenance Squadrons were recognized for achieving 100 percent participation.

Although the campaign is ongoing throughout the Air Force, MHAFB is currently number one in participation within Air Combat Command.

"I hope everyone enjoyed being part of an organization that positively impacts our Airmen and their families in time of need," Brincka said. "Being a hero starts at home."
