The 7th Bomb Wing command post recently won the Air Force Large Unit Award from Jan. 1, 2011, through Dec. 31, 2011.

"It's always great to be recognized when you work so hard and produce amazing results," said Master Sgt. Jodi Epps, 7th Bomb Wing command post. "The Command Post of the Year award recognizes our entire team; it is not an individual award. It is a reassurance that we do have a great team and we are operating like a well oiled machine."

Dyess command post provides a number of critical services to the base, from emergency response and leadership tracking to monitoring of flight operations and alert systems. It also leads the way in cooperation through combining personnel from the 317th Airlift Group and the 7th Bomb Wing into one team.

"To be the command post of the year is a culmination of the things we have accomplished," Epps said. "We already knew that we were good; the results of the Operational Readiness Inspection reassured us that we were "outstanding" and are a "superior team," but to be recognized among all other command posts in the Air Force as being the best of the best is an amazing accomplishment."

The command post is a 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week entity that acts as an executive agent to commanders. Among the functions performed are coordinating reports to higher headquarters, facilitating flying operations and managing all emergency operations, including computer alert notifications, base sirens and "the giant voice."

"I am extremely proud of the hard work we do 24-hours-a-day seven-days-a-week," Epps said. "There is no such thing as close of business for the command post, we are always here. We are always ready to alert, direct and report. The team of airmen we have here is fantastic."

Last year Dyess Command Post swept the individual awards at the Air Combat Command level winning the 2010 ACC Command Post SNCO, NCO, and Airman of the Year awards.
