Officials release MQ-1B Predator accident report Published Oct. 1, 2009 Air Combat Command Public Affairs LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. (ACCNS) -- An electrical failure in the Primary Control Module caused the crash of an MQ-1B Predator northeast of Joint Base Balad, Feb. 22, according to an Air Combat Command Accident Investigation Board report released Oct. 1. The Predator, valued at $4,456,000, was assigned to the 432nd Wing at Creech Air Force Base, Nev. There were no injuries or damage to other property or equipment. The electrical failure caused the aircraft to lose all communications capability, making the aircraft unable to accept commands. The aircraft automatically initiated a pre-programmed flight termination routine, which shut down the engine and put the aircraft in an unrecoverable spin. Shortly afterward, the aircraft impacted the ground and was destroyed. For more information, call Air Combat Command Public Affairs at (757) 764-5007 or e-mail accpa.operations@langley.af.mil.
