Two Airmen assigned to the 432d Wing and 432d Air Expeditionary Wing helped make a difference in the lives of two families through their volunteer efforts.

Staff Sgt. Chasidy Sells, NCO in charge of 432d Wing Plans and Programs, and Airman 1st Class Troy Spence, 432d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron crew chief, spent time volunteering for the ABC television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." The show is known for changing the lives of deserving families in need of a new home.

Sergeant Sells and Airman Spence volunteered for the show in mid-March to help a North Las Vegas family. Airman Spence also spent time in Indianapolis, Ind., in April volunteering for the show.

"I've always loved the show and what it stands for," Sergeant Sells said. "I couldn't pass up the opportunity to help a local family."

Airman Spence also said he was a big fan of the show and when he learned Extreme Makeover: Home Edition would be headed to the Las Vegas area; he jumped at the chance to help.

"I have watched 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' since episode one. I love the whole idea behind the show, which is giving back to those who deserve," he said.

With only seven days to complete both projects, both Airmen spent time doing whatever was needed by the staff of the show. Some of the tasks included setting up fences for safety, picking up construction cones, delivering food to the workers, and moving boxes.

"This experience was simply amazing," Sergeant Sells said. "The level of participation was phenomenal. We would call people at 1 a.m. to ask for help dry walling and they were there in 20 minutes even though they had to be at work the next day."

When the house was complete in North Las Vegas, Airman Spence learned the show would be headed to his home state of Indiana.

"I am from Brownsburg, Indiana, which is about 20 minutes west of Indianapolis. I was so excited to hear the show was going to my hometown next to film the show's two-hour season finale," Airman Spence said. "There was no way I was going to pass up an opportunity to help in the community where I was raised."

Airman Spence said his overall experience helping families in need was amazing.

"You can watch the expressions on faces of the families hundreds of times on television, but there are no words to describe the joy you feel when you see their expressions from a few feet away."

The episode featuring the North Las Vegas home is expected to air Sunday, May 10, the two-hour season finale featuring the home in Indianapolis, is expected to air Sunday, May 17.
