Gen. John Corley, Air Combat Command commander, visited Shaw to support Airmen and speak at the Air Force Association 11th Annual Dinner, Aug. 20.

"The primary objective for why my wife, Alice, and I came down here was to recognize our Airmen and tell them 'thank you,'" General Corley said. "My philosophy is people first and mission always."

As the Air Force mission continues to demand the most from Airmen, General Corley said he likes to get out to his bases to speak to those dedicated individuals who serve day in and day out defending freedom. The Air Force and ACC would not be as successful as it is without the continued dedication of the Airmen and their families.

"The performance of the Airmen at Shaw is absolutely exquisite," General Corley said.

Each ACC base mission is unique and Team Shaw definitely works overtime to provide combat-ready forces to be deployed around the world, the general said.

"Maintaining peak combat capability begins and ends with talented, healthy, motivated, trained and well-equipped Airmen and the Shaw team embodies that," he said.

The general said Shaw's future is bright and his vision is new, more and improved. As the largest F-16 combat wing, Shaw will continue to be out front as a deterrent for those who wish America harm.

With the new Air Force Chief of Staff and Secretary of the Air Force, Airmen can expect to see a lot of positive changes, the general said. They have stressed the need to regain and maintain the nation's trust by going "back-to-basics" of standards, precision and enforcing the standards.

"I know General Schwartz well and I have great respect and admiration for him," General Corley said. "The new chief will do what the other great Chief of Staff of the Air Force (Gen. Michael T. Moseley) just did for us; he will focus his Airmen on contributing to winning the Global War on Terror as well as improving their quality of life. He will focus on preparation and readiness for future contingencies.

"I am very proud of the Shaw Airmen and the job they are doing," General Corley said. "They are making a difference in today's fight as they continue to remain prepared and ever-vigilant for what the future may bring."
