Shaw Airman receives Bronze Star

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (ACCNS) --  One of Shaw's explosive ordnance disposal technicians received the Bronze Star Medal at a presentation ceremony here Aug. 28. 

Staff Sgt. Adam Ginett, 20th Civil Engineer Squadron EOD team leader, received the medal for his service during Operations Enduring Freedom, Task Force Iron Gray, Combined Joint Task Force Paladin and Combined Joint Task Force-76. 

Among many accomplishments, Sergeant Ginett led a team in 64 combat operations, clearing more than 800 miles of roadways and ensuring the safety of Coalition and American forces. He also destroyed more than 112,726 unexploded ordnances, 12 complex improvised explosive devices and seven enemy weapons caches with a net explosive weight of more than 23,962 pounds. 

"I just felt like I was doing what I was supposed to," Sergeant Ginett said. 

During the operations, Sergeant Ginett's team often encountered direct and indirect enemy fire. Despite hostile enemy action, all of the missions were successfully completed.

The Bronze Star is awarded to servicemembers who distinguished themselves by heroic or meritorious achievement or service.

"This is the kind of award that we don't give away," said Col. James Post, 20th Fighter Wing commander. "They're earned. This type of award demonstrates service before self."
