(ACCNS) -- Officials here named a teen from Minot AFB, N.D., as the Air Combat Command 2007 Youth of the Year. Brittany Knickerbocker, 18, daughter of Timothy and Linda Knickerbocker of Minot AFB, earned the accolades for her school, base and community involvement. Miss Knickerbocker will receive a $1,500 scholarship from ACC that she can use at the post-secondary school of her choice. In addition to other accomplishments, Miss Knickerbocker has participated in youth programs for the last eight years, including several community service projects, FitFactor, and the Youth Employment Skills program. She was also selected to participate in local Teen Summits conducted by base officials to address youth concerns. As a direct result of her participation and advocacy, an additional bus route was added from the local schools to the base, affording youth opportunities to participate in after school activities. After completing high school this year, Miss Knickerbocker plans to attend Minot State University where she will pursue a degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Performing Arts. Her long-term career goal is to continue her education in an accredited law school and become a prosecuting attorney. Base youth centers sponsor the Youth of the Year program in conjunction with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Nominees submit a written package and make an oral presentation via video teleconference. A panel of judges from ACC selects the winner.
