SJ medics bring health care to Bolivia Published Sept. 29, 2006 4th Fighter Wing Public Affairs SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. (ACCNS) -- Members of the 4th Medical Group here recently provided nine days of humanitarian medical care in rural areas of Bolivia. More than 4,100 Bolivians in four rural areas of northern Bolivia, near the Brazilian border, received care in general medicine, pediatrics, dermatology, optometry and dental care. On the busiest day, the group served more than 660 patients. As part of the optometry care, patients were provided glasses that were donated from the local Lion's Club. Much of the dental care included tooth extractions. The team was selected for the humanitarian mission by the Air Force Southern Command after they volunteered their unit to participate in medical readiness training. Along with the 12 members on the team from Seymour Johnson, there was one Airman from Little Rock Air Force Base, Ark., and one from the Kentucky Air National Guard.
