President, senate nominees and assignments

The president has nominated to the senate the following general officer for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as indicated:

Maj. Gen Robert J. Elder Jr., Air War College commandant, and Air Education and Training Command Air University vice commander, Maxwell AFB, Ala., will become, 8th Air Force commander, Barksdale AFB, La., and Joint Functional Component commander for Space and Global Strike, United States Strategic Command, Offutt AFB, Neb.

The Senate has confirmed the following general officer for appointment to the grade of general with assignment as indicated:

Lt. Gen. Kevin P. Chilton, 8th Air Force commander, Barksdale AFB, La., will become Air Force Space Command commander, Peterson AFB, Colo.

The Senate has confirmed the following general officer for reappointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as indicated:

Lt. Gen. William M. Fraser III, ACC vice commander, Langley AFB, Va., will become assistant to the Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff, Pentagon, Washington D.C.

The Senate has confirmed the following general officer for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as indicated:

Maj. Gen. Norman R. Seip, assistant deputy to the Air Force Chief of Staff, Air, Space and Information Operations, Plans and Requirements, Washington D.C., will become 12th Air Force commander and U.S. Southern Command Air Forces commander, Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz.

Scheduled to retire:

Col. Michael E. Meis, ACC Combat Air Forces Logistics Support Center commander, Langley AFB, Va.

Selected for assignment:

Col. Michael W. Melendrez, ACC Materiel Management Division chief, Langley AFB, Va., will become ACC Combat Air Forces Logistics Support Center commander, Langley AFB, Va.
