An Airman from the 27th Security Forces Squadron was found guilty of two specifications of rape, one specification of carnal knowledge and one specification of indecent assault in a general court-martial held here from May 11 to 13.

A military judge sentencedAirman 1st Class Joshua Loyd to 18 years confinement, a dishonorable discharge and reduction to airman basic.

The sentence brings with it automatic forfeitures of pay and allowances.

Sexual assault is a crime, said Col. Jeff Stambaugh, 27th FW Vice Commander. There is no place for sexual assault in the military.

Airman Loyd had been stationed at here since the summer of 2002. He chose to be tried by a military judge sitting alone and pled not guilty to all charges.

The first rape and the indecent assault took place at the Landing in October 2003, with two civilian victims.

The offenses came to the attention of base authorities after the rape victim, who appeared distraught, told a club employee what had happened. The victim had departed before law enforcement officials arrived, but Office of Special Investigations agents used base entry logs to determine her identity and contact her.

The second rape, unrelated to the earlier offenses, occurred in a dorm room on base in February 2004. The victim was a military member. She reported the offense to supervisors, who referred her to OSI investigators and a Victim Witness Assistance Program liaison from the base legal office.

The carnal knowledge charge was based on a sexual relationship between Airman Loyd and a minor under the age of 16 in late 2002 and early 2003.

Airman Loyd had been in pretrial confinement since Feb. 10, 2004.

All four victims testified against Airman Loyd and were present for the sentencing.
