Command names safety award winners

Air Combat Command officials here announced the 2004 safety award winners Jan. 7. 

The safety awards recognize individuals, groups, and units for their efforts in mishap prevention.


Lt. Col. Mark E. Schlichte, from the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth AFB, S.D., won the Individual Safety Award.

Tech. Sgt. Shane D. Johnson from the 28th BW at Ellsworth AFB, S.D., won the Explosives Safety Outstanding Achievement Award.

Capt. Dax Hayes, from the 74th Fighter Squadron at Pope AFB, N.C., won the Outstanding Airmanship Award.

Staff Sgt. Joseph W. Martin, from the 1st Logistics Readiness Squadron at Langley AFB, Va., won the Safety Special Achievement Award.

Ms. Karen D. Rogow, from the 366th Fighter Wing at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, won the Safety Career Professional of the Year Award.

Tech. Sgt. Martin P. Jackson, from Headquarters Air Combat Command at Langley AFB, Va., won the Nuclear Surety Outstanding Achievement Award.

The 27th FW at Cannon AFB, N.M., won the Special Achievement Award as well as the Flight Safety Special Achievement Award.

The 509th Bomb Wing from Whiteman AFB, Mo., 2nd Bomb Wing from Barksdale AFB, La., 5th Mission Support Squadron from Minot AFB, N.D., and the 4th Fighter Wing from Seymour Johnson AFB, N.C. won the Nuclear Surety Award.

The 366th FW from Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, 33rd Fighter Wing from Eglin AFB, Fla., 819th Red Horse Squadron from Malmstrom AFB, Mont., and 3rd Combat Communications Group from Tinker AFB, Okla., won the Outstanding Achievement Award for Ground Safety.

Capt. Chad M. Cartier and crew: Lt. Col. Anthony J. Murch, Maj. Charles R. Fetters, Capt. Eric S. Patton, Capt. John M. Harrison, 1st Lt. David S. Alexander, Senior Master Sgt. Susan M. Lardner, Master Sgt. Dwayne A. Lovins, Tech. Sgt. Richard D. Cook, Staff Sgt. Benjamin M. Indino, Staff Sgt. William B. Dunne, and Airman 1st Class Jeffrey A. Weiler, of the 43rd Electronic Combat Squadron at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz. won the Aircrew of Distinction Award.

The 43rd ECS at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., 33rd FW at Eglin AFB, Fla., 27th FW at Cannon AFB, N.M., 1st FW at Lanley, Va., 9th Reconnaissance Wing at Beale AFB, Calif., 55th Wing at Offut AFB, Neb., 2nd BW at Barksdale AFB, AFB, La., 552nd ACW at Tinker AFB, Okla., 509th BW at Whiteman AFB, Mo., 49th Test and Evaluation Squadron at Barksdale AFB, La., 355th Wing at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., won the Flight Safety Award.

The 33rd FW at Eglin AFB, Fla. and 83rd Fighter Weapons Squadron at Tyndall AFB, Fla., won the Missile Safety Award.

The 33rd FW at Eglin AFB, Fla., 23rd Fighter Group at Pope AFB, N.C., 355th Civil Engineer Squadron at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., 28th BW at Ellsworth AFB, S.D., 388th Equipment Maintenance Squadron at Hill AFB, Utah, 27th FW at Cannon AFB, N.M., 3rd CCG at Tinker AFB, Okla., 2nd BW at Barksdale AFB, La., 9th Munitions Squadron at Beale AFB, Calif., 7th Bomb Wing at Dyess AFB, Texas, and the 1st FW at Langley AFB, Va., won the Explosives Safety Award.

The 27th ADOS at Cannon AFB, N.M., won the Medical Safety Achievement Award.

The 2nd Services Squadron at Barksdale AFB, La., and 1st Services Squadron at Langley AFB, Va., received FAA Certificates.

The 12th Air Force at Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz., received the Numbered Air Force Safety Program of the Year Award.

The 366th FW at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, won the Wing Safety Program of the Year.

Lt. Col. Craig K. King from the 33rd FW at Eglin AFB, Fla., won the Wing Chief of Safety of the Year.

Capt. Barry J. Lawlor from the 1st FW at Langley AFB, Va., won the Flight Safety Officer of the Year Award.

Tech. Sgt. Timothy W. Powell from the 23rd FG at Pope AFB, N.C., won the Flight Safety NCO of the Year Award.

Staff Sgt. Jeffrey R. Sidorowicz from the 1st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Langley AFB, Va., won the Crew Chief Safety Outstanding Achievement Award.

Master Sgt. Andrew W. Friend from the 1st AMXS at Langley AFB, Va., won the Flight Line Safety Outstanding Achievement Award.

Master Sgt. Gregory D. Nelson of the 366th FW at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, won the Weapons Safety Outstanding Achievement Award.

Master Sgt. Eric J. Voak from the 1st LRS at Langley AFB, Va., and Master Sgt. Peter J. Haugh from the 28th LRS at Ellsworth AFB, S.D. won the Logistics Safety Outstanding Achievement Award.

Tech Sgt. Robert E. Foster from the 366th FW at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, won the Ground Safety Outstanding Achievement Award.

Staff Sgt. Mary G. Circe from the 28th BW at Ellsworth AFB, S.D., won the Ground Safety Special Achievement Award.

The 28th BW at Ellsworth AFB, S.D., won the Traffic Safety Special Achievement Award.

These ACC award winners will now go on to compete at the Air Force level.
