ACC announces 2006 Commander in Chief Installation Excellence Award winner Published Oct. 21, 2005 LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. (ACCNS) -- For the second year in a row, Air Combat Command officials named Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., the command-level winner of the Commander-in-Chief Installation Excellence Award. Col. John Posner, 27th Fighter Wing commander, accepted the bases 2006 award for $100,000 toward future quality-of-life improvements Oct. 21 during the Air Combat Command Commanders and Spouses Conference here. The colonel said it felt great to be able to represent the wing and accept an award on the behalf of the 27th FW for all the great work theyve done and added that winning two years in a row is not an easy thing to do. I think theyve been able to do something that is sometimes difficult to manage to maintain that level of commitment and focus for an extended period, and theyre very proud of this, Colonel Posner said. Cannons commander said he believes the way that all of the units integrate and operate through teamwork played a big role in the bases recognition. Ive seen it happen at a lot of places, but within the squadrons, units, organizations and groups (at Cannon), theres a very evident sense of teamwork, he said, while crediting supervisors with keeping everyone focused on the wing mission. Capt. Dat Lam, a member of the ACC award evaluation team, said during the teams visit to Cannon, they observed not only how focused people were, but also how positive they were. People were excited and happy to be there, and it reflected in their work, the captain said. Although Cannon took first place this year, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., also came out a winner by placing as runner up in the installation category, which earned the base $50,000 in operations and maintenance funds to improve future quality-of-life programs. Col. Michael Spencer, 355th Wing commander, said he was honored that Davis-Monthan was nominated as one of the finalists, and the selection is testimony to the bases hard work and team building approach across the installation. Davis-Monthans commander said the selection is a representation not only of supervisors, but of all the bases Airmen. (Our) Airmen reflect the professionalism, dedication, and tenacity to improvise, adjust, and build on existing programs, facilities and infrastructure to meet the mission, he said. Cannon AFB will go on to compete at Air Force level. The Air Force evaluation team is projected to visit finalists in early 2006.
