Veterans still serving

HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --  President Woodrow Wilson once said, "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations."

Wilson announced November 11 as Armistice Day in 1919, one year after the Germany armistice, which ended fighting in World War I.  Just 26 years later, Raymond Weeks, a World War II veteran from Alabama had an idea to expand Armistice Day to honor all veterans. In 1954, the idea took and Armistice Day evolved into what is now known as Veteran's Day.

As Veteran's Day approaches, Holloman Air Force Base recognizes those members of Team Holloman who have served and continue to serve today. These individuals have helped shape today's Airmen and have shown the call to duty extends beyond their service contracts.
