(ACCNS) -- The NORAD organization responsible for the air sovereignty continental of the United States will dedicate a new, state-of-the-art, $30 million air and space operations center here June 1. Dubbed "America's AOC" the operations center will allow 1st Air Force and the Continental U.S. NORAD Region to better direct strategic homeland defense air forces for NORAD and U.S. Northern Command. The center will manage day-to-day air defense and air sovereignty operations protecting the continental U.S. from airborne aggression. The new 37,000 square foot facility will also house a joint, interagency team of military and civilian personnel allowing the Air Force to better coordinate defense support to civil authorities in times of crisis and natural disasters. "As we continue to hone America's technological edge we are able to strengthen our homeland defenses and bring military and civilian authorities together under one roof," said Maj. Gen. Hank Morrow, commander of 1st Air Force and CONR. "That kind of teamwork is vital to our success."
