(HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M.) Senior Airman Amaan Davis, 49th Security Forces Squadron patrolman, checks a retiree’s identification card at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M. April 8, 2015. Since choosing to serve in the military Davis has gained a sense of satisfaction from knowing that he is the first line of defense for any installation he is stationed at. Davis gains his motivation to continue to serve from the retirees that come through the gate and thank him for his service. Davis grandfather influenced him to join the Air Force and asked him to do a minimum of four years. Davis feels that being a first responder to any incident on an installation helps contribute to the overall mission of protecting this nation. “My grandfather, schooling opportunities, safe housing on base, and the chances for travel made me join,” said Davis. Davis has been in the military for three years, even though security forces was his last choice, he enjoys his job and looks forward to a long and fulfilling career in the Air Force. (HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M.) Staff Sgt. Patrick Wilson, 49th Security Forces Squadron flight sergeant, writes a citation for a routine traffic stop at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M. April 8, 2015. “Being a part of something bigger than myself gave me purpose, that is why I choose to join the military,” said Wilson. Showing the retirees that the ‘new age’ military can keep up and continue to support the mission is what gives Wilson his motivation to continue to serve. Wilson’s uncle, who was a Colonel in the Air Force as a B-52 Stratofortress pilot and last served as a Vice Commander at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., was his major influence to join the Air Force. “We protect and enforce guidelines to ensure the safety of the people on this installation. In my opinion that is how we contribute to the military mission,” said Wilson. Wilson joined April 26, 2005 and originally wanted to be a military working dog handler, but he is happy with his job and looks forward to the many opportunities to come. After hearing stories of a Chaplin jumping from foxhole to foxhole during WWII encouraging and inspiring the young soldiers during a time of great stress, will always touch his heart and continue to drive him in helping others. Szyda stated that it is not his expectation to see results or the impact he has on Airmen, but to know that the family, friends, spouses, and co-workers see that impact or result shows how being a Chaplin contributes to the military mission. Lewis feels that he contributes to the military mission by keeping the personnel and assets on base safe. Lewis said he always wanted to be a cop and joining the military as a security forces patrolman was the ideal job for him. April 8, 2015. Choosing to serve has given Rogers a greater respect for the military. “Joining the military has made me realize what is needed and what is not needed in life,” said Rogers. She explained that the making her father proud and showing him all she is capable of doing keeps her motivated in serving in the military “I told him that one day he will salute me, so that is one of my goals,” said Rogers. Her father, a 28 year Navy veteran was a driving factor in her decision to enlist. Rogers stated that as a security forces member, it is part of her responsibility to protect the base and its operations, which aids to the bigger overall picture. Rogers joined to help support her spouse, for education opportunities, to be a part of something bigger than herself and to gain life experiences she would not have gotten in the civilian world.
