U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Nicholas Navarro, 7th Security Force Squadron, fires a M249 light machine gun Aug. 10, 2012, during a heavy-weapons qualification course at Camp Bowie, Texas. While at the firing range, Airmen shot a M249 light machine gun at targets ranging from 25 to 300 meters. The M249 allows service members to place mass amount of fire on an enemy position, suppressing their movement. Prior to firing at the range, Airmen participate in a four-day classroom course, where they learn how to clean, disassemble, reassemble, operate, perform immediate actions and about different types of loads for the weapon.
