MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. -- Airman 1st Class Gary Simmons Jr., 23rd Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter, tests out a spreader at Moody Air Force Base, Ga., Nov. 22. The tool is used with a cutter to help pry open parts of a vehicle and free any trapped victims. This past year, the 23rd CES responded to 196 aircraft, medical and structural calls, earning them the 2010 Society of American Military Engineers Curtin Award for best small unit in Air Combat Command during a recent awards banquet at Langley Air Force Base, Va.
