MYRTLE BEACH,S.C. -- Staff Sgt. Steven Thomas, 20th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter, pulls a 45-pound hose up five stories to the top of the tower during the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge during the world competition at Myrtle Beach, S.C., Nov. 13. The competition is considered "the toughest two minutes in sports" and seeks to encourage firefighters' fitness, as well as demonstrates the challenges of the profession to the public. Shaw Air Force Base firefighters placed 16th among 175 different teams from across the U.S., as well as from France, Germany, Slovenia, Canada and New Zealand at the competition.
