Pope Air Force Base firefighters use air powered "Jaws of Life" tools to remove barriers of twisted door frames and the vehicle's collapsed roof during extraction procedures resulting from a staged accident at Pope Air Force Base. It took several minutes to cut through the door frames to safely remove the occupant. Summer months typically see a spike in vehicle-related fatalities. Week one of the Critical Days of Safety attempts to educate Airmen on safe driving habits during extended trips. This two vehicle accident was caused by a drunk driver who was arrested by 43d Security Forces. (U.S. Air Force photo by Jerry Green)
