Base’s last F-16s leave

MOUNTAIN HOME AIR FORCE BASE, Idaho -- Lt. Col. Phillip “Sprocket” Hoover, former 389th Fighter Squadron commander, speaks with his crew chief while running through his pre-flight check list March 29. Colonel Hoover piloted one of the squadron’s last five F-16s as they left the base that morning to complete a five-month plan to move the these jets to McEntire Air National Guard Base, S.C., and Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. The move was outlined in the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure recommendations to consolidate the service’s F-15 and F-16 fighter aircraft at selected bases.
