Battle against biology, chemistry

Staff Sgt. Theodonte Wiseman, 4th Aerospace Medicine Squadron, removes his protective gear after investigating a suspicious package as part of a hazardous-material training exercise at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, N.C., April 21, 2009. As a bioenvironmental engineering technician, Sergeant Wiseman teamed with an emergency-management specialist to indentify and quantify a hazardous substance that leaked from the suspicious package. Both members of the hazardous-material response team wore fully-encapsulating protective suits with powered, self-contained breathing apparatus. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Shawn J. Jones)
