Obama appoints acting deputy defense secretary

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced Dec. 3 that President Barack Obama has appointed Christine H. Fox to serve as acting deputy defense secretary. Deputy Defense Secretary Ash Carter departs Dec. 4, and Fox is scheduled to assume her duties Dec. 5, making her the highest-ranking woman ever to serve in the Defense Department.
