Staff Sgt. Mike Hejmanowski, 366th Security Forces Squadron evaluator, stalks for a target of opportunity inside the base hospital Nov. 6, 2013, during an active-shooter training exercise at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho. “The safety of our patients and staff is extremely important to 366th Medical Group leadership and they felt the time spent on such training would enhance the level of safety,” said Lt. Col. Robert Corby, 366th Medical Support Squadron commander. “We want to be able to expose opportunities for improvement in an exercise environment so we are fully prepared to respond in the event of a real-life situation. The training exposed hospital personnel to a realistic active-shooter situation that mirrored the environment and associated confusion brought on by a heightened state of anxiety.” (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Benjamin Sutton/RELEASED
