16th ACCS 27-year history comes to a close at Robins

The 16th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron relocated to Shaw AFB, South Carolina on Feb. 8, 1958 and was reequipped with RF-101C Voodoo reconnaissance aircraft. With the elimination of USAF's Group layer the Squadron was reassigned directly to 363rd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing. The Squadron deployed to MacDill AFB, Florida from Oct. 22 to Nov. 30, 1962 in response to the Cuban Missile Crisis undertaking hazardous missions over Cuba while gathering intelligence photos for the campaign. The 16th TRS flew the McDonnell RF-101C Voodoo from 1958 – 1965.
