  • Air Force International Health Specialists bring experience to pandemic response

    International Health Specialists' experience in global health engagements proved important to support the Department of Defense’s relief efforts to state health care systems fighting COVID-19. The Ninth Air Force-led Task Force-Southeast provided defense support of civil authorities within Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, regions III and IV. The task force’s largest mission was delivering support to a COVID-19 alternate care site set up at Temple University in Philadelphia that served as an overflow medical facility. Several International Health Specialists brought experience in global health engagements to support the task force’s establishment and mission.

    The 5th Combat Communications Group has been working hard to ensure war fighters around the world can stayed connected to execute the mission. The group, fondly called the 5th MOB at Robins, provides a variety of critical communication assets, such as radio, phone and internet to support a customer base as small a couple of Airmen to even as large as an entire wing anywhere in the world it is needed.
  • First Air Force’s Auxiliary supports FEMA for COVID-19 test transport

    The New Mexico Wing of Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, transported COVID-19 test kits from a meat packing plant in southern New Mexico to the Scientific Laboratory Division of the state Department of Health in Albuquerque for processing.
  • JB Charleston serves as Hurricane Florence staging area

    Joint Base Charleston joined the relief efforts to help victims of Hurricane Florence by becoming a staging location for various rescue and relief units as of Sept. 14, 2018. The teams standing by for the efforts consisted of the 334th Air Expeditionary Group, the South Carolina and Pennsylvania Army National Guard Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Teams as well as the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
  • 552nd ACW supports Hurricane Florence relief efforts

    An E-3 Sentry aircraft from the 552nd Air Control Wing’s 960th Airborne Air Control Squadron launched out of Tinker Air Force Base Saturday morning in support of Hurricane Florence relief efforts. The aircraft, with a crew of 19, will be on station for an extended period flying off the coast of North Carolina. This type of mission is a bit different than the combat missions AWACS crews normally fly. “We get to help Middle America and everyone is usually pretty energetic to go on these missions.
  • Another 1,000 Texas Guard members deployed to assist Tropical Storm Harvey response

    WASHINGTON — Weather forecasters are saying the remnants of Hurricane Harvey are causing "catastrophic flooding" in Southeastern Texas, as about 3,000 Texas National Guard and Texas State Guard members have been called up to help their fellow citizens, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Sunday.
